Catch a screening of the 2012 documentary Searching for Sugar Man by director Malik Bendjelloul, as part of the World in Progress outdoor film series from Cinema Akil in collaboration with Alserkal Avenue. The film tells the story of Rodriguez, who was set to be a 1970s American rock icon before his album tanked and he disappeared into obscurity. However, the album became a phenomenon during apartheid in South Africa. Two decades later, two fans decide to find out what happened to Rodriguez and discover a story more extraordinary than they could have imagined.
