Etisalat customers say they have been frustrated by internet outages reported in some areas of the country.
Abu Dhabi residents reported problems with connecting to the internet on Tuesday and on Wednesday.
A message on the Etisalat customer care line on Wednesday morning advised customers: “We are currently experiencing a general problem in all regions where people are unable to browse the internet.
“Our technical team is working to resolve the problem. We regret the inconvenience caused.”
The audio message was later removed, and some customers received one saying the outages were affecting the Abu Dhabi region. But it was unclear whether the internet connection had been restored, and Etisalat said it was unable to provide another update at that stage.
Paul Bennett, a Briton living in Abu Dhabi, said he noticed that his connection was down at about 9.30am on Wednesday.
“Whether it was down earlier, I don’t know, but when I tried to go online this morning it wasn’t connecting,” he said.
“I ended up going out to a mall and using the internet there. It’s just annoying that this kind of thing still happens.”
Yousuf Malik, an Abu Dhabi resident from India, said that although his internet was working before he left for work in the morning, it was very slow.
“I usually go online and check out some news sites before I go into work, and the websites were very slow in loading pages,” he said.
“I switched between using a cable and Wi-Fi but it didn’t really do anything, and then I went to work, so I’m hoping it’s back to normal when I go back.”
Etisalat had said on Tuesday that internet was unavailable for some users because of a mobile network upgrade. It also said the service had been restored later in the day.
Telecoms company du said no reports of network problems had been made.
