Abu Dhabi’s AI Summer Programs Empower Youth with Advanced Skills

Abu Dhabi has initiated a substantial educational venture, enrolling 2,400 students in AI Summer Programs aimed at advancing their knowledge in prompt engineering. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) in collaboration with prominent institutions like 42 Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and Majalis Abu Dhabi, the initiative targets students from grades 9 to 12 across various school types.

These programs are meticulously designed to equip the younger generation with the skills required to revolutionize industries through artificial intelligence. The curriculum spans the fundamentals of generative AI, ethical considerations, AI concept development, and career exploration. Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, Undersecretary at ADEK, underscored the department’s commitment to preparing students for the evolving AI landscape by leveraging partnerships with leading institutions to deliver top-tier AI training.

Central to the summer programs are the Generative AI and Prompt Engineering Bootcamps. These bootcamps provide hands-on learning experiences that enhance problem-solving skills through advanced techniques like fine-tuning language models. The full-day bootcamps, conducted across six schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, offer in-depth training sessions three times a day. Meanwhile, shorter two-hour sessions, held at 28 locations with Majalis Abu Dhabi, cater to UAE Nationals, focusing on interactive discussions and group activities.

Additionally, a five-day summer program, aimed at students in grade 11 and above, is offered in partnership with MBZUAI. This program delves into diverse AI applications, including film production, generative AI, responsible AI, and sustainability research. Workshops are led by MBZUAI’s distinguished faculty, providing students with expert insights and practical knowledge.

Furthermore, ADEK is preparing four UAE Nationals for the inaugural International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). This competition, designed to challenge high school students, aims to inspire and nurture future AI pioneers. Two MBZUAI students will mentor the team, ensuring they are well-prepared for the event in Bulgaria from August 9-15.

This initiative exemplifies Abu Dhabi’s dedication to fostering innovation and equipping its youth with the expertise to drive meaningful global change through artificial intelligence.
