DoH Launches Genomic Medicine Course to Enhance UAE Healthcare

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) has unveiled a pioneering Clinical Genomic Medicine and Genetic Counselling program designed to advance the skills of Emirati physicians in the rapidly evolving field of genomic medicine. This six-month course, a first in the region, is conducted in collaboration with the International Center for Genetic Disease (iCGD), Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and hosted by Khalifa University.

The initiative aims to strengthen the UAE’s healthcare system by equipping 100 Emirati doctors with cutting-edge knowledge in genomics and precision medicine. The curriculum covers crucial areas such as the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases like cancer and metabolic disorders, as well as newborn and population screening. Participants will gain expertise in clinical decision-making and genomic data interpretation, which are essential for implementing the Emirati Genome Programme and formulating effective public health policies.

This program underscores Abu Dhabi’s commitment to becoming a leading hub for healthcare innovation in the region, aligning with its broader strategy of fostering global partnerships to enhance healthcare outcomes.
