The Microsoft Surface Pro and Apple iPads are some of the most popular tablets available in the market. It seems that these two tablets will soon see a new competition called Eve V, which will feature top-end specs and a reasonable price tag.
Helsinki-based startup Eve Tech had aimed to raise $75,000 in its Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for the Eve V. However, the company has already raised more than $1 million with a month left in its campaign.
Konstantinos Karatsevidis, the cofounder and CEO of Eve, says that the startup has financial backing from the Finnish government, Microsoft and Intel. Karatsevidis says that about 30 percent of people who backed the project are existing Mac users.
“Unsatisfied with most devices out there our team decided to surprise the market by changing the way products are developed. In our open online community, under code name: Project Pyramid Flipper, more than 1,000 hardware enthusiasts collaborated globally and created the Eve V,” says Eve Tech.
Eve V Specs
The Surface Pro runs on Intel’s Skylake processor and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro on Apple’s A10X processor. The Windows 10-running Eve V will include Intel’s 7th-generation Kaby Lake chips (Core m3, Core i5 and Core i7 options).
Customers will have the option to purchase the Eve tablet in either 8 GB or 16 GB RAM configurations. The Eve V will be available in 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB storage capacities.
All models of the Eve V will feature a 12.3-inch IGZO LCD screen with a display resolution of 2,736 x 1,824 pixels.
The tablet will include a couple of USB-C ports (one with Thunderbolt 3 compatibility) and two USB-A ports. The startup claims that the 48 Whr battery of the Eve V will ensure usage time of 10 to 12 hours. For comparison, the Surface Pro 4 includes a 39 Whr battery that provides usage time of about five to six hours.
The 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes with a 38.5 Whr battery that Apple claims offers usage time of up to 10 hours.
It is also worth noting that the Surface Pro 4 was plagued with power management issues that took Microsoft a good few months to fix.
Price
The base model of the Surface Pro 4 is priced at $999 (currently discounted at $799) while the top variant has a price tag of $1,799. The starting price of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is $799 and it can go up to $999.
The preorders for the base model Eve V started at $699 and for the top model it was $1,399. All Eve V models are sold out, which highlights the popularity of the tablet.

Availability
The iPad Pro and the Surface Pro 4 are available in the market. Customers who have preordered the Eve V will have to wait until February 2017 for the delivery of their tablet.
The price of the Eve V along with top-end specs are some of the selling points of the new tablet, especially given that its competitors have priced similar products at higher price points.
