'Final Fantasy VII' Remake Rumored To Have 2017 Release Date For PlayStation 4 And Xbox One

The remake of Final Fantasy VII is arguably one of the most anticipated titles of all time, as gamers are looking forward to relive the adventures of Cloud Strife and his team in a reimagined version of the classic RPG.

The Final Fantasy VII remake was announced in June 2015 at the annual E3, not as a simple visual upgrade but as a completely new game with modern graphics and a new combat system. News on the title have been too few and far in between for excited gamers though, causing anticipation for the game to further build up.

A new rumor, however, claims that the wait for the game’s arrival might soon come to an end.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Listed At EB Games Australia

Retailer EB Games Australia has listed the Final Fantasy VII remake on its online store, with preorder price of $109.95. The news is not on the price though, as it is simply a placeholder, but on the stated release date.

According to the EB Games Australia listing, the Final Fantasy VII remake has a TBC 2017 release date, which hints that the game could be launching within the year.

TBC means “to be confirmed,” but players are hoping, perhaps out of desperation, that the stated release date is actually a hint that the Final Fantasy VII remake is coming soon.

Will The Final Fantasy VII Remake Really Be Released This Year?

While skepticism against the 2017 release date for the Final Fantasy VII remake is understandable, the rumor started by the listing on EB Games Australia actually corroborates with previous rumors that the highly-anticipated title is set to be launched within the year.

Late last year, there were rumors that the first part of the Final Fantasy VII remake will be released in 2017 alongside Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, which is the remastered version of Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, which features a new soundtrack, improved technical performance and the addition of trophies, is said to be bundled with the Final Fantasy VII remake.

Why bundle the two games? The reason could be that 2017 is the 30th birthday of the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy franchise, and placing these two games at the frontline of the celebration could be considered a good idea.

Final Fantasy VII Remake On The Xbox One

Another important piece of information hinted by the EB Games Australia listing is that the Xbox One version of the Final Fantasy VII remake could be coming sooner than expected.

When the Final Fantasy VII remake was first announced, it was said that gamers would be able to play it first on the PlayStation 4. With the EB Games Australia listing of the title for the Xbox One, the gap between the release of the Final Fantasy VII remake on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One might not be that wide after all.

What We Know So Far Of The Final Fantasy VII Remake

We know that the Final Fantasy VII remake will have a huge change in its combat system, perhaps more similar to that of Final Fantasy XV compared with the turn-based battles of the original Final Fantasy VII.

The first gameplay trailer, released in December 2015, showed that the title is indeed a third-person action RPG. In addition, it has been revealed that the Final Fantasy VII remake will be episodic, as fitting the entirety of the original game is not possible in a single release.
