Harrison Ford has near-miss with passenger liner

Harrison Ford has had a close run-in with a passenger airliner at an airport in California in the United States. The actor, 74, was told to land his single-engine plane on a runway at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Southern California on Monday, but he mistakenly landed it on a parallel taxiway, passing over an American Airlines jet holding. “Was that airliner meant to be underneath me?” Ford is heard asking air-traffic controllers in a recording, NBC reported. American Airlines Flight 1456, with 110 passengers and six crew, departed safely for Dallas a few minutes later. This is not the first airline incident for Ford, in March 2015 the actor was seriously injured when his World War II-era trainer crashed on a Los Angeles golf course when it lost power shortly after take-off. — Associated Press

Berlin Film Festival audience cry over Syrian war flick

Two films about the continuing war in Syria has brought tears to audiences at the Berlin Film Festival. Insyriated is a film shot almost entirely inside the walls of an apartment that becomes like a prison for Oum Yazan, a mother determined to survive a war whose brutality is conveyed mostly through the sounds of bombs and sniper gunfire. “It shocked people in a very smart way. Westerners saw enough images of destruction on their television screens. But few of them know what Syrians are going through or how they feel being trapped in there,” Iraqi film critic Kais Kasim said. The Other Side of Hope, by Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki uses humour to depict the experiences of a stowaway Syrian asylum seeker, who decides to remain in Finland illegally after his application is rejected. — Reuters
