NES Classic Edition Availability: Nintendo Promises You'll Be Able To Buy The Retro Console Before Christmas

The shortage in supply of the NES Classic Edition has frustrated customers who have been looking forward to reliving the games of the past.

However, Nintendo has promised that gamers will be able to buy the retro console before Christmas. If this is true, it would be a great holiday gift to fans of the old NES titles.

NES Classic Edition Supply Shortage

The supply shortage for the NES Classic Edition has pushed the secondary market price of the $60 retro console to hundreds of dollars, as those who are able to acquire units of the device are reselling them for a nifty profit.

Several retailers have since received stocks of the NES Classic Edition after the initial supply of the retro console was depleted, but the device instantly sells out.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé, however, does not seem very concerned about the supply shortage, claiming that the company is continuously releasing more units of the NES Classic Edition into the market.

“The overall level of demand is certainly greater than we anticipated,” Fils-Aimé said in an interview with CNET, pointing to the fact as the reason for the supply shortage.

In a separate interview, Fils-Aimé said that he thinks Nintendo’s retail partners for the NES Classic Edition are doing a great job in updating customers regarding the availability of the retro console

In addition, Fils-Aimé said that he believes all interested gamers will be able to buy the device before Christmas rolls around.

Will You Really Be Able To Buy The NES Classic Edition Before Christmas?

Paul Tassi of Forbes believes that Fils-Aimé’s statements are optimistic, to say the least, given the fact that the replenished stocks of Nintendo and its retailers have not shown to be capable of holding up to the massive demand for the NES Classic Edition.

Tassi recommends that customers who want to buy a NES Classic Edition should physically keep checking stores for stocks, especially if the local retailer said that it is expecting stocks of the retro console to come in soon. This sounds like a better idea than making online purchases, as bots are very quick to purchase any stocks that appear on website, but it will likely still not be easy, as some stores are only getting a handful of units of the NES Classic Edition at a time.

Customers should also always be on the lookout for announcements that retailers will make, such as the recent one made by Best Buy that said stocks for the NES Classic Edition are expected to arrive on Dec. 20.
