Expect deep, moody, saturated shades to dominate in 2017 – paint brand Benjamin Moore has named Shadow, a rich shade of amethyst, as its colour of the year.
“Allusive and enigmatic, Shadow is a master of ambience. It is a colour that calls to mind a past, yet it can also make a contemporary, colour-confident statement,” says Helen Mullett, international marketing director of Benjamin Moore Paints.
“Shadow is sophisticated, provocative and poetic; it can bring energy to a space, or harmony and a moment of respite,” she adds.
After a year of research – which explored industry shows around the world, but also looked at architecture, fashion, textiles, home furnishings and the arts – Benjamin Moore unveiled its list of colour trends for 2017 at a recent event in New York. There’s a prevalence of rich, evocative hues in the 23 shades featured on the brand’s colour trends list, which includes such vividly named shades as Guacamole, Stormy Monday, Grandfather Clock Brown, Wet Concrete and Cloud Cover.
UAE residents will be able to get their hands on these shades that little bit more easily after Benjamin Moore recently opened a dedicated shop-in-shop in Marina Home’s flagship store in Al Barsha, Dubai.
Marina Home Interiors has identified Benjamin Moore as its preferred paint, and the brand’s products, which are priced at Dh50 per quart, are now available to custom-mix and purchase at the expansive Marina Home store on Umm Suqeim Road.
“The power of colour is that it can completely change your experience,” says Sahar Vakil, head of brand development for Marina Home Interiors. “The paint you choose, as well as the colour of furniture and accessories, all create a mood.
“Always ask yourself how you want to look and feel in a space. Redesigning a home is no longer bound by the norms of prescribed interior genres. Your home is an expression of your style,” Vakil continues.
