Samsung Galaxy S8 Tops AnTuTu Benchmark, Outperforming Apple's iPhone 7 Plus And Any Other Smartphone

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 ripped through the AnTuTu benchmark, achieving a spectacular score no other smartphone has hit so far.

Up until now, Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus had been the top performers on the AnTuTu benchmark, scoring 172,001 and 181,316, respectively. On the Android front, the OnePlus 3T ruled the game, boasting a 162,423 score.

It now looks like there’s a new smartphone king in tow, as a new video surfaced online showing the purported Samsung Galaxy S8 (SM-G950) with a whopping score of 205,284 on the AnTuTu benchmark.

This marks a tremendous jump from the OnePlus 3T‘s score and also dethrones the iPhone 7 Plus, placing the Galaxy S8 at the very top of the AnTuTu benchmark chart as the new smartphone king.

The impressive AnTuTu score could be a testament to the great horsepower the Galaxy S8 packs under the hood, thanks to the latest Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 chipsets. Depending on region, the Galaxy S8 will pack one of these two processors, both of which are top of the line.

Last year, for instance, the Galaxy S7 line launched with a Snapdragon 820 processor in the United States and China, and an Exynos 8890 chipset in all other regions worldwide. Consequently, the U.S. and China versions of the Galaxy S8 are expected to feature the Snapdragon 835 while other variants should come with the Exynos 8895.

Processing Power

Recent Geekbench results showed the Exynos 8895 version outperforming the Snapdragon 835 one, but both processing options should be impressively powerful nonetheless. When it comes to regular tasks and usage, users should see no noticeable difference between the two processing options.

The new Galaxy S8 AnTuTu benchmark video also highlights the advancements in processor technology, as both the Snapdragon 839 and the Exynos 8895 run on a 10-nanometer architecture as opposed to the 14-nm architecture of older processors.

The OnePlus 3T, for instance, draws power from a 14-nm Snapdragon 821 processor and the processor technology could also account for the gap in performance compared to the Galaxy S8 on AnTuTu. The upcoming OnePlus 5, however, should pack a Snapdragon 835 and be significantly more powerful than the OnePlus 3T.

OnePlus 5 concept renders also envision a sleek flagship killer that might give the Galaxy S8 a run for its money, but for now at least it seems that the upcoming Samsung flagship will run the smartphone game.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will make their official debut later this month on March 29, and should go on sale sometime in April. Both handsets are expected to boast top-notch specs and features for a killer performance and the latest AnTuTu benchmark scores seem to bolster such expectations. If these benchmark scores are accurate, the iPhone 8 and other smartphone flagships will have some serious catching up to do and it will be exciting to see how things unfold.
