Transworld chairman honoured as visionary

ramesh ramakrishnan of transworld|By TAP Staff| Ramesh S. Ramakrishnan, Chairman of Transworld Group, a Dubai headquartered shipping, logistics and marine services provider, was honoured as “The Visionary and Businessman of the Decade” at the prestigious Maritime And Logistics Awards 2014 held in Mumbai, India on Friday.

Ramakrishnan was recognised for his many pioneering and innovative initiatives, outstanding vontributions, visionary leadership and commitment to the development of maritime industry, both in Indian subcontinent and Middle East.

Two Transworld Group companies were also honoured, with Balaji Shipping Line being recognised as the NVOCC (non vessel operating common carrier) of the Year and Shreyas Shipping and Logistics Ltd. winning the “Shipping Line of the Year – Coastal Operator” title, both for the fifth time in a row.

“This is a recognition of the hard work put in by all my colleagues at Transworld Group and the support that we have obtained from our business partners and I thank everyone,” Ramakrishnan said. “We are particularly happy with Shreyas Shipping being recognised as a leading player in coastal shipping, as coastal shipping is a concept that we pioneered in India,” he added.

Transworld Group was established in 1977 with expertise in integrated shipping, logistics, multi-modal transport and marines services. The Group owns and operates a fleet of 30 vessels and has offices at all major UAE, Arabian Gulf, Indian, Pakistan, Sri Lankan and US ports.

Maritime and Logistics Awards was instituted to recognise quality service, best practices and innovation — both among companies and individuals — in the various segments of the maritime and logistics sector. The winners, across 45 categories, are selected by a jury comprising some of the leading lights of the industry.
