'Ultra Street Fighter II' Coming To Nintendo Switch, But Will You Be Able To Play It Properly?

Nintendo has finally unveiled the official details of the Nintendo Switch, including the price tag of $299 and the global launch date of March 3.

Several games for the upcoming hybrid console have also been shown, with the highly-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild announced as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch and Super Mario Odyssey revealed as the new 3D Super Mario game.

Another high-profile game announced for the Nintendo Switch is Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, which is an updated version of Street Fighter 2.

Ultra Street Fighter II Features Two New Characters, New Game Mode

In Capcom’s announcement of Ultra Street Fighter II, the developer revealed the details of the upcoming fighting game for the Nintendo Switch.

“For the first time in nearly 20 years, since Super Street Fighter II, two new characters join the fight; Evil Ryu and Violent Ken,” Capcom wrote, adding descriptions on the pair of fighters. Evil Ryu is said to have had his former honorable self purged as he has succumbed to the Satsui no Hado, pushing him towards absolute power and bloodlust. Violent Ken, on the other hand, is a brainwashed and enhanced version of Ken as a result of being kidnapped by M. Bison.

A new game mode also comes to Ultra Street Figher II in the form of 2-versus-1 fights, which is inspired by the Dramatic Battle mode found in the Street Fighter Alpha games.

Ultra Street Fighter II also offers players the chance to switch between the classic pixel-art graphics of the original Street Fighter 2 and HD graphics.

Ultra Street Fighter II First-Person Mode?

At the end of the trailer that was showcased in Nintendo’s livestreamed announcement event for the Nintendo Switch, Ryu was shown launching a hadouken in first person.

While this may be nothing more than footage made only for the trailer, it could be hinting that such a first-person mode could be coming to Ultra Street Fighter II.

The Nintendo 3DS version of Street Fighter IV carried the same mode, and Capcom has said that there will are upcoming announcements of new modes for Ultra Street Fighter II. Could a first-person mode be among the gimmicks that Capcom has planned for the Nintendo Switch fighting game?

Will Gamers Be Able To Properly Play Ultra Street Fighter II On The Nintendo Switch?

Upon purchase, the Nintendo Switch already comes with a pair of controllers to allow two-player games right out of the box. However, the controllers, called the Joy-Cons, only have analog sticks on them and no directional pads. Playing fighting games on analog sticks is difficult, as analog sticks do not offer the same precision as directional pads.

There are options for fighting game enthusiasts who will be buying the Nintendo Switch, but it will cost them. There is the Pro Controller, which comes with a directional pad, better grips and proper shoulder buttons for $69.99 each, and the leaked fighting controller with a joystick and arcade-style buttons rumored to cost about $160 each.

All of these, however, will be on top of the $299 price tag of the Nintendo Switch and the rumored $39.99 price of Ultra Street Fighter II, representing a significant cost of entry for players who will be serious about fighting games on the upcoming hybrid console.
