Want Fingerprint Gestures Of Google Pixel And Pixel XL? This App Will Let You Enable The Feature On Your Android Marshmallow Smartphone

If you are envious of those who own the Android 7.1 Nougat-powered Google Pixel or Pixel XL smartphones because of the fingerprint gestures feature, there’s no need to turn green. You can now get the same on your Android Marshmallow smartphone too!

How you ask? Thanks to a new app called Fingerprint Gestures that enables the nifty feature on handsets powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

So courtesy of this app from developer SuperThomasLab, the fingerprint gestures on the Pixel XL or the Pixel will work on other handsets that run on the Android operating system.

Which Devices Are Supported By The App?

Fingerprint Gestures offers support for Android smartphones that are running Marshmallow version 6.0 or above.

Moreover, the Android smartphone also needs to have a fingerprint scanner embedded to enable the Fingerprint Gestures app to operate.

How Does the App Work?

The app will let users on compatible devices check alerts by swiping down the fingerprint scanner.

Tapping once on the scanner will launch the app selected by the user. A double tap on the fingerprint sensor will put the device to sleep.

“Enable the fingerprint actions of Google Pixel on your device. Use gestures like single tap, double tap or fast tap (swipe) to control your phone and/or tablet. To check your notifications, swipe down on the fingerprint sensor on your phone. Touch your fingerprint sensor and scroll through an app of your choice. To quickly turn your phone to sleep, just tap the sensor. And so much more!” notes the app’s description.

Once can also perform plenty of basic gestures via the fingerprint sensor such as play or pause a song, toggle the split screen mode or the ringer mode, open the notifications panel, open the quick settings and more.

Some actions, however, require that the user’s compatible device has root access. Root is required “to control extra functionality,” says the developer.

What Are Early Users Saying?

Early users have given the app a start rating of 3.9 and seem pleased with Fingerprint Gestures.

However, many feel that while the app seems to be working well, it would be better if the app had haptic feedback to confirm that a gesture has been recognized. Moreover, users also feel that an option to get rid of the alert on the notification tray should be available. Some would like to see scrolling via directional swipes as well and the app to be faster and more responsive.

The Fingerprint Gestures app is available as a free download from the Play Store now. Let us know in the comments section what you think of the app if you tried it out on your compatible Android device.
