Dubai Taxi Company to Introduce Autonomous Taxis by Early 2026

Dubai Taxi Company has announced plans to launch its first autonomous taxi service in the emirate by the first quarter of 2026, aligning with Dubai’s strategic vision for advanced mobility. Chief Executive Mansoor Alfalasi confirmed that the company is actively collaborating with partners to expedite the project’s development.

In an interview, Alfalasi emphasized the importance of working closely with the Roads and Transport Authority to address all regulatory, safety, and operational aspects of the autonomous taxi initiative. This collaboration aims to ensure that the service meets the highest standards and integrates seamlessly into Dubai’s existing transportation infrastructure.

Dubai has been proactive in establishing a regulatory framework to support the deployment of autonomous vehicles. Law No. of 2023 prohibits the operation of any autonomous vehicle in the UAE without a license issued by the RTA. To obtain this license, vehicles must pass technical examinations conducted by the RTA and comply with stringent safety and security standards. Additionally, the vehicles are required to have insurance coverage from a UAE-based insurer.

The RTA plays a pivotal role in supervising the autonomous vehicle industry in Dubai. Its responsibilities include developing policies and plans for autonomous vehicle operations, setting technical, safety, and security standards, and periodically assessing the performance of operators. The RTA also determines the specific routes and areas where autonomous vehicles can operate, establishes applicable traffic rules, and oversees the necessary infrastructure development to support these vehicles.

Dubai’s commitment to integrating autonomous vehicles into its transportation network is part of a broader strategy to position the city as a leader in smart mobility solutions. The introduction of autonomous taxis is expected to enhance traffic efficiency, reduce emissions, and offer residents and visitors a modern, convenient mode of transport.

In parallel with ground transportation advancements, Dubai is also exploring aerial mobility solutions. The RTA has signed an agreement with Joby Aviation, a California-based electric aircraft manufacturer, to launch air taxi services in the emirate by early 2026. This initiative aims to introduce all-electric, vertical takeoff and landing aircraft capable of transporting passengers across the city, further diversifying Dubai’s transportation options.
