Siemens Integrates Minima’s Blockchain to Enhance IoT Device Security

Siemens, Europe’s largest industrial technology company, has partnered with Minima, a pioneer in decentralized blockchain technology, to integrate blockchain capabilities into its devices across the automotive, robotics, energy, and healthcare sectors. This collaboration aims to bolster data integrity and security in the rapidly evolving landscape of connected industrial systems.

The partnership is facilitated through Siemens Cre8Ventures, an initiative dedicated to accelerating industrial transformation by collaborating with startups specializing in artificial intelligence, digital twins, cybersecurity, and related fields. By embedding Minima’s blockchain technology directly into its devices, Siemens seeks to address the escalating cybersecurity challenges inherent in the proliferation of connected devices and autonomous systems.

Minima’s blockchain solution enables Internet of Things devices to operate as full nodes within a decentralized network. This architecture ensures that each device can independently verify transactions and maintain tamper-proof records without relying on centralized servers, thereby eliminating single points of failure and enhancing overall system resilience.

In the automotive sector, this technology facilitates secure vehicle logs, sensor data management, and over-the-air updates, ensuring data immutability and verifiability. By reducing reliance on centralized data storage, the decentralized infrastructure diminishes vulnerabilities to cyberattacks and enables trusted data exchanges among original equipment manufacturers , suppliers, and service providers.

Within the energy industry, Minima’s blockchain enhances the security of smart grids, renewable energy sources, and energy storage systems by protecting them from cyber threats and data manipulation. The technology also supports decentralized energy transactions, facilitating peer-to-peer energy trading and optimizing grid management through secure, blockchain-enabled smart contracts.

The healthcare sector stands to benefit from improved data security and integrity, as Minima’s blockchain can protect sensitive patient information, ensure medical device integrity, and create transparent, immutable audit trails for regulatory compliance and supply chain verification.

This collaboration aligns with the objectives of the European Union’s Chips Act, introduced in 2022 to reduce reliance on foreign chip manufacturers and promote technological sovereignty. By integrating Minima’s blockchain technology, Siemens supports the EU’s goal of achieving independence in next-generation digital ecosystems.

The Siemens Cre8Ventures Digital Twin Marketplace will serve as a platform for testing and validating these blockchain solutions. This environment allows industry stakeholders to de-risk and accelerate technology adoption, enhancing digital twin security and verification processes.
