Ten thousand Afghans will benefit from the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation’s iftar project this Ramadan.
The initiative is carried out in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Kabul and will result in thousands of meals being handed out to those in need.
Other Ramadan projects being carried out on behalf of the UAE include the delivery of 100 tonnes of dates and food packages to underprivileged Tanzanians.
The project in Tanzania is being carried out by Emirates Red Crescent under the supervision of Abdullah Al Suweidi, the UAE Ambassador to Tanzania. So far more than 500 food packages have been handed out, state news agency Wam reported.
Mass iftars have also been held at mosques, orphanages and in residential complexes.
Since the start of Ramadan, the UAE has carried out iftar projects in various regions. Last week, the UAE Embassy in Jakarta and Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation hosted a mass banquet for 3,000 people at Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in South-east Asia, in the presence of a number of local officials.
In Belarus, the foundation distributes 150,000 meals each day at the Capital Mosque in Minsk.
Iftar banquets are part of a UAE annual tradition of helping the underprivileged, with initiatives taking place in more than 50 countries.
Food packages have been handed out by Al Maktoum Foundation in Egypt’s Qina and Beheira governorates.
The foundation, sponsored by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, oversaw 2,000 packages being handed out last weekend.
The latest batch of handouts, of which there will be 10,000, contain 20 kilograms of food sourced from local markets.
