DUBAI // Prosecutors have failed to overturn a not guilty verdict given to an office cleaner accused of sexual assault.

Dubai Criminal Court cleared the 34-year-old Indian of touching a woman’s breast in October.

On May 15, the 28-year-old Filipina was working late at her office in Dubai Healthcare City.

“About 9.30pm I went to my desk to take my bag and laptop then leave but I found the doors locked so I called for the cleaner to open them for me,” said the accountant. She said when she walked out, the man touched her breast.

“I jumped away from him and he started apologising,” said the woman, who informed security and her manager.

“The man was arrested after she lodged a complaint and he said his elbow touched her breast by mistake,” said a police officer.

The cleaner denied a sexual assault charge in court and was found not guilty. Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the original verdict.
