SSH unveils designs for world's largest children's hospital in Kuwait

Designs have been unveiled for largest tertiary children’s hospital, the largest hospital of its kind in the world, which is to be built in Kuwait.

Design firm SSH was appointed by Kuwait’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Works last year, with the project being undertaken by SSH in association with global architects HKS and engineering firm WSP.

The hospital will feature a total of 792 beds and the 300,000 sq m facility will be located within the Al Sabah Specialty Medical Area in Al-Shuwaikh.

The facility also includes diagnostic and treatment centres to complement all tertiary care services, along with other non-clinical support and public departments.

Non-healthcare structures, functions and services are also part of the design which includes 2,400 car parking spaces, a helipad to support emergency air transport services and a daycare centre for infants, pre-toddlers and pre-schoolers, dedicated to children of staff working at the hosptial.

SSH said in a statement that there has been a growth in demand for healthcare construction in the Middle East.

The company employs over 1,000 people with offices in Abu Dhabi, Algeria, Bahrain, Dubai, Iraq, Kuwait, London, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.
