Get Ready To Rock: ‘Pokémon GO’ Announces ‘Adventure Week’ With Chances At Rare Pokémon : CULTURE : Tech Times

It’s time for yet another Pokémon GO event, this time one that will focus on rock-type Pokémon and, unlike the grass-focused Worldwide Bloom, will be a full event with store discounts, increased appearances of rock Pokémon, and more candy for Buddy Pokémon.

Many past events have been tied to real-world holidays, but Adventure Week’s origins are a bit more random, having no basis in any real-life celebrations. Instead, Niantic noted that the world’s Pokémon trainers have walked a combined 15.8 billion kilometers (9.8 billion miles) and decided to create an event to celebrate that feat.

Pokémon GO was developed for people to easily experience classic Pokémon gameplay on their mobile device and catch Pokémon in the real world,” says Niantic. “As a result, every day, people around the globe go outside, explore the world around them, make some new memories, and get some exercise along the way. We’d love to honor the memories created so far, and our collective journey yet to come, with the Pokémon GO Adventure Week celebration from 1 p.m. PDT [4 p.m. EDT] on May 18 to 1 p.m. PDT [4 p.m. EDT] on May 25, 2017.”

Rock Candy

In addition to letting players get cheaper Pokéballs and new wardrobe options, Adventure Week makes it easier to level up your Buddy Pokémon by allowing them to earn candy four times faster than under normal circumstances. Given that candies can be used to strengthen your Pokémon in various ways, this is a great opportunity to give your team that much-needed power boost.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Pokémon GO event without increased Pokémon sightings, and Adventure Week is focusing on rock-type Pokémon. Of particular interest is that the blog post specifically mentions Aerodactyl, which is one of the game’s rarest specimens.

Still Strong

While Pokémon GO isn’t quite as popular as it was upon release, the rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated. Overall, the game has been downloaded more than 650 million times, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Download numbers would include anyone who has ever installed the game even if they never bothered playing it.

When judging a game’s successes, it is far more important to look at the number of active users. According to statistics released by Niantic, the game currently has 65 million monthly users. While many of those users may only log in once a month to check for new events, there is still a group of loyal players spending money on the game.
