Abu Dhabi’s Modon Holding Acquires Spain’s Prestigious La Zagaleta Estate

Abu Dhabi-based Modon Holding has acquired 100% of La Zagaleta S.L., the owner of the exclusive La Zagaleta residential estate in Spain’s Costa del Sol.

La Zagaleta, situated in the hills of Benahavís near Marbella, spans approximately 900 hectares and is renowned for its luxury villas, some priced over €30 million. The estate features two private golf courses, an equestrian center, a helipad, and extensive natural surroundings, offering residents unparalleled privacy and security.

The acquisition includes La Zagaleta’s planned Majarambuz development, historically known as Valderrama II, within the Castellar Development Plan adjacent to Sotogrande. This project encompasses a 2.2 million square meter land bank, currently in the process of urbanization, which will further expand Modon Holding’s luxury real estate portfolio.

Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, Chairman of Modon Holding, stated, “The acquisition of La Zagaleta is an important milestone in Modon Holding’s strategy to pursue international growth, supporting our vision to develop new possibilities for scaled luxury living.”

Bill O’Regan, Group CEO of Modon Holding, added, “With an established reputation for outstanding design, diverse leisure and luxury amenities, and careful stewardship of the natural environment, La Zagaleta offers a location where luxury, privacy, and security are absolutely assured.”

Ignacio Pérez, Executive Chairman of La Zagaleta, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, noting that Modon Holding’s investment will enable La Zagaleta to realize the next phase of its vision and explore the full potential of its brand and expertise.

Modon Holding, whose major shareholders include ADQ and the IHC Group, specializes in the development of residential communities, hotels, and leisure facilities, primarily in Abu Dhabi. This acquisition marks its entry into Europe’s luxury real estate market, aligning with its strategy to expand internationally and diversify its portfolio.

La Zagaleta, established in the early 1990s on a former 900-hectare estate, has become one of the most exclusive residential communities in Europe. The estate currently comprises over 250 villas and mansions, with plans for further development under Modon Holding’s ownership.
