I wonder how much of a drawing the cartoonist did before “covering it up”. Would it be easier to sketch complete human figures first, or just to draw partials at the edges of the text box?

Just wondering about the technical aspect of drawing, not the point of the cartoon. Humor professionals aren’t covered by my insurance, anyway.
