The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular) have agreed form an alliance in Karnataka for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP will have an understanding on four to five seats with JD(S) for the Parliamentary election, former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Friday.

“HD Deve Gowda traveled to Delhi this week and met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. JDS had initially demanded eight seats, and BJP offered only three seats. Finally, consensus emerges on sharing four to five seats,” Yediyurappa said.

As per sources, Hassan, Mandya, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, and Tumakuru are the seats. BJP is still reluctant to give up Chikkaballapura which it currently holds.

It won’t be a full-fledged alliance where leaders from both parties will campaign in each other’s constituencies, JDS sources said.

“Best to term it as seat sharing understanding,” they said.

The BJP was in power in Karnataka till the Assembly polls May earlier this year in which the Congress claimed victory over 135 seats in the 224-member house.
