Decoding The Controversial History Of Ram Temple Inauguration

By Dr. Gyan Pathak

January 22, 2024 has just become an epoch-making date in Indian History. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi led the rituals with Rashtriya Swayamsevak chief Mohan Bhagwat by his side and inaugurated the new Ram Temple at Ayodhya. Since Sunday, every nook and corner of the country under RSS clan’s influence saw the frenzy of whipped up religious passions. On January 22 Deepavali was observed across the country. However, the history will remember the occasion only as controversial, when brute political power was on show overwhelming the country in the name of religion.

Construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya at the very place where Babri Mosque stood has been in the BJP’s manifestoes since almost three decades. Therefore, BJP leader and PM Narendra Modi’s inaugurating the Ram Temple cannot be denied as an occasion that was hurriedly organized on the eve of Lok Sabha Election 2024, violating the Sanatan Dharma tradition, that prohibits inauguration of a temple and the Pran Pratishtha of the deity at a time when there is no Muhurta (auspicious time) for the same. One of the Shankaracharyas said that anyone can see the Hindu Calendars, and he had himself seen 14-15, that does not even mention the required auspicious time.

However, due to perceived political urgency, PM Narendra Modi chose to violate this tradition of auspicious time despite many apolitical Hindu saints and priests had warned not perform Pran Pratishtha and inauguration of the temple where there was no auspicious time. Moreover, another tradition says that no one should perform Pran Pratishtha under temple still being under construction. It was also violated, and hence the four Shankaracharyas said that they would not be participating in the occasion.

Religious Hindus are therefore horrified that the Pran Pratishtha and inauguration of the temple were performed in violation of Sanatan Dharma Shastras provisions, and hence what is done in Ayodhya is ominous and will affect the destiny of the entire nation. Nevertheless, political Hindus close to BJP assert that PM Narendra Modi has done a great thing for the Hindus and their self-respect. They are sure of gaining political mileage in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, they say, which seems to be uncertain, since a sharp division has emerged on the issue among Hindus. The followers of those Hindu saints who were termed the Pran Pratishtha and inauguration of the temple a violation of the Hindu Shastras are also in great numbers, and they cannot desert their gurus or saints in favour of PM Narendra Modi or anyone else.

Religious Hindus are hurt on account of ignoring and disregarding their Ram Lalla Virajman, a 9 inch idol, around which the entire Ayodhya agitation was planned, and the Babri Mosque was demolished. Ram Lalla Virajman was a party to the case in which he was given the land on which the present temple was built. The Ram Lalla Virajman has been given a secondary place in his own temple and the RSS-VHP-BJP’s bigger 51 inch idol has been given primary place. Ram Lalla Virajman has been reduced to just an “Utvav Idol” and willbe kept movable. It is simply a disgrace to Ram Lalla Virajman, and the injustice to him has been overlooked. Ram Lalla Virajman would be worshipped now on special occasion, while RSS-VHP-BJP’s bigger idol has got primacy and permanent seat which is lawfully the seat of Ram Lalla Virajman, who does not even need Pran Pratishtha since He is the living deity. Pran Pratishtha was performed on RSS-VHP-BJP’s idol.

Many institutions, both government and private were closed on January 22 so that people would participate either in Ayodhya ceremony or any other event organized in elsewhere in the country by political Hindu’s. Even several courts in the country were closed.. Fortunately, the Supreme Court of India has been worked fully under the Chief Justice of India, Justice D Y Chandrachud. Supreme Court Bar association president, Adish C Aggarwala, who is known in the public as BJP and PM Modi Supporter had even written a letter to CJI requesting that no adverse Orders should be passed due to non-appearance of lawyers.

People have already noted among the five judges who had delivered the judgement on Ram Janmabhumi-Babri Mosque case, the then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, was made a Member of Parliament by the BJP after he retired.

There was another judge, Justice Ashok Bhushan, who had reportedly authored an unsigned addendum to the Ayodhya judgement on the significance or Lord Ram and his birthplace. Within three months of his retirement, Modi government appointed him chairman of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), a position he continues to hold till date. Justice Bhushan has now issued an order declaring a half-day holiday in NCLAT, both at principal Bench and the Chennai Bench. It is also reported that he would be attending the temple consecration.

The installation of RSS-VHP-BJP’s idol in violation of justice delivered to the Ram Lalla Virajman will go on the record of the History of India, threatening the country to be torn apart between the communal Hindu Rashtra and the secular Democratic forces in India. January 22, 2024 marks the beginning of the bitter struggle between the two ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024.

“We have to now lay foundation of India of next 1000 years,” said PM Modi, indicating what the RSS-VHP-BJP clan really plan for India, which is nothing else but the Hindu Rashtra, in which even Hindus will be given certificates if they are Hindus or not, as they have been branding opposition leaders from Hindu communities for quite some time now.

Therefore, the Ram Temple Inauguration is of historic significance for India and its people. Much of the fate of India will depend on how people defend their rights and justice for all against the political and autocratic hegemony of the RSS-VHP-BJP clan. Lok Sabha Election 2024 will be such an occasion to test the mood of Indians after January 22 event. (IPA Service)
