DUBAI // Those who violate traffic rules will face fines of up to Dh3,000 and their vehicles being impounded for up to three months under new federal rules.
The Government introduced the amendments to the Federal Traffic Law to make the country’s roads safer as part of its vision for zero road fatalities by 2020.
Motorists driving without a number plate face a fine of Dh3,000, 23 black points and cars impounded for 90 days.
Drivers of heavy vehicles face a Dh3,000 fine and one-year licence suspension if they drive in a way that endangers lives.
Exceeding the speed limit by 80kph or more means a Dh3,000 fine, 23 black points and vehicle impounded for 60 days. Those who exceed the limit by 60kph face fines of Dh2,000.
Drivers endangering lives or harming property will be fined Dh2,000, 23 black points and a 60-day vehicle confiscation.
Drunk drivers will be taken to court as well as getting 23 black points and having their vehicles impounded for 60 days.
Driving under the influence of drugs will also mean a court date, 60-day vehicle confiscation and driving licence suspension for a year.
