Lightpath Unveils High-Capacity Fiber Network in Phoenix to Support AI Expansion

Lightpath, a prominent provider of all-fiber infrastructure-based connectivity, has announced the deployment of a 230-route mile, high-fiber-count network in the Phoenix metropolitan area. This strategic expansion is driven by partnerships with multiple hyperscaler clients and aims to meet the escalating demand for robust connectivity, particularly for artificial intelligence applications.

The newly constructed network features underground, multi-conduit systems capable of housing up to 20,000 fibers. It establishes connections among eight data center campuses and key carrier hotel locations, with plans to extend services to over 30 additional data center campuses situated along the planned routes. The network encompasses emerging data center hubs in Goodyear, Buckeye, Chandler, Glendale, Mesa, and Tempe, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the Phoenix metropolitan region.

Construction of the network is already underway, with priority routes slated for completion by the second quarter of 2025 and full network deployment anticipated by 2026. Upon completion, Lightpath will offer a suite of infrastructure and connectivity services, including high-count dark fiber, conduit services, wavelengths up to 800 Gbps, Ethernet, and Internet solutions. These services are designed to cater to a diverse clientele, encompassing enterprises, educational institutions, government agencies, carriers, and wireless service providers.

Phoenix has emerged as a significant data center market, ranking as the fifth-largest globally with 1.6 gigawatts of operational capacity and an additional 1+ GW projected by 2027. This growth trajectory underscores the necessity for advanced fiber infrastructure to support the region’s expanding digital ecosystem. Chris Morley, CEO of Lightpath, emphasized the company’s commitment to collaborating with hyperscale customers to develop next-generation fiber infrastructure in the greater metropolitan Phoenix area.
