The Middle East Film and Comic Con, which takes place at Dubai World Trade Centre from April 6 to 8, has made a few big-name late additions to its line up of celebrity guests.

Appearing in person will be Anthony Mackie, an actor best known to genre fans for his role as superhero Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, in Marvels Avengers and Captain America movies. He also appeared in The Hurt Locker, 8 Mile and The Adjustment Bureau.

Filmmaker, writer, actor, comic store owner, and all round “geek’s geek” Kevin Smith, director of acclaimed movies including Clerks, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, will take part in a live video chat from the US (following in the virtual footsteps of Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee, who featured in a similar video session at last year’s MEFCC).

Smith runs his own production company, View Askew Productions, which he cofounded with his Smodcast podcast co-host Scott Mosier. His New Jersey Comic Shop, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, is the subject of reality-TV show Comic Book Men on the AMC channel.

WWE wrestler Kane, a seven-foot giant will also be at the event in person to meet fans.

The three new additions join previously announced celebrity guests including: Game of Thrones and Clash of the Titans’ star Liam Cunningham; The Walking Dead’s Josh McDermitt, who plays fan-favourite character Eugene Porter on the hit Zombie drama; Heroes and Star Wars actor Greg Grunberg; and Argo actress Cas Anvar.

Tickets for the convention start at Dh100. Visit www.mefcc.com for more details.
