The partners of the law firm at the heart of the Panama Papers scandal have been granted bail pending further legal action over allegations they helped launder money related to a huge Brazilian bribery case.

Panama Papers scandal lawyers Both Juergen Mossack and Ramon Fonseca were freed on bail of half a million dollars each. Last year’s Panama Papers scandal was set off by the leak of thousands of documents related to offshore accounts. Messers Mossack and Fonseca Mora of the Mossack-Fonseca firm were arrested in February in connection with a bribery scandal involving Brazil’s state-run oil company, Petrobras. The two are accused of money laundering for allegedly setting up offshore accounts to move bribes.


Fighting back


However, Mr Fonseca has spoken out saying that they are veing victimised and that he considers himself a ‘political prisoner’.Until the Panama Papers scandal blew up, Fonseca was a close friend and adviser to Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela.
