Singapore has named a rare kind of orchid after the UAE’s Mother of the Nation, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
The gesture was intended as appreciation for the humanitarian contributions of Sheikha Fatima, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
The flower is in the National Botanic Gardens in Singapore and will represent “an example of the Arab woman”, reported Wam, the state news agency.
It was chosen from numerous rare species as part of a tradition in Singapore for visiting national presidents and senior personalities with strong ties to the country.
Sheikha Fatima and her delegation attended a ceremony for the flower naming, along with the wife of the Singapore foreign minister and other officials.
