Smartphone users can access data on potential for renewable energy

Smartphone users can now access data on the potential for renewable energy around the world.

The free app, called The Global Atlas pocket, has been launched by the International Renewable Energy Agency, and combines 1,000 maps from 67 governments and 50 data centres to provide information on renewable energy resources anywhere in the world.

The app can tell users the renewable energy potential of a certain area, investment feasibility, and access images and maps of renewable energy infrastructure opportunities.

“The Global Atlas pocket helps bring more investment certainty to renewable energy prospectors and investors,” said Adnan Z. Amin, director general of IRENA. “Users can freely access data from geothermal potentials in the Caribbean to solar potentials in the Middle East and anything in between.”

The app is available on all platforms including BlackBerry 10, iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
