The downpour saw the normally heavy morning traffic grind to halt in many places in Dubai and the capital.

Multiple accidents were showing up on the Google’s traffic map for Dubai and Abu Dhabi this morning, with Dubai police warning drivers to “reduce speed during heavy rain to avoid any hydroplaning”.

The rainy conditions are expected to subside towards midday, with sun and cloudy conditions predicted for the afternoon.

NCMS, in its forecast for today, said: “Unstable weather & Partly cloudy to cloudy with increasing of cloud amounts, may be develop towering clouds associated with different intensity rain over scattered areas. Significant drop in temperature, fresh winds strong at times especially in case of cloud activity, causing blowing sand/ dust and poor visibility over the exposed areas.”

Tomorrow is expected to be dry, with a mixture of sun and cloud, with similar weather expected on Thursday. Friday could see a return of the inclement weather, with cloudy conditions predicted along with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm.
