The company has officially launched Duck.ai, an AI chatbot designed to provide users with conversational interactions. This feature allows users to engage in private conversations with third-party AI chat models, including Anthropic’s Claude 3 Haiku, Meta’s Llama 3.3 70B, Mistral AI’s Mistral Small 3 24B, and OpenAI’s GPT-4o mini. Each model offers unique responses based on distinct algorithms and datasets, enabling users to perform tasks such as answering questions, composing emails, summarizing text, or simply engaging in casual conversation. Notably, Duck.ai ensures that all interactions are anonymized, and user data is not utilized for training these AI models, aligning with DuckDuckGo’s privacy-centric approach.
In addition to Duck.ai, DuckDuckGo has enhanced its search engine capabilities by integrating AI-generated answers. This feature, initially introduced as DuckAssist in 2023, has now exited its beta phase and sources information from a broader range of web sources beyond Wikipedia. The AI-generated answers are designed to be concise and relevant, providing users with direct responses to their queries. Users have the flexibility to adjust the frequency of these AI-generated answers or disable them entirely, ensuring control over their search experience.
Gabriel Weinberg, CEO and founder of DuckDuckGo, emphasized the company’s cautious approach to integrating AI into its services. He stated that while the goal is to increase the frequency of AI-generated answers over time, the company remains conservative to ensure the quality and accuracy of the information provided. This approach reflects DuckDuckGo’s commitment to enhancing user experience without overwhelming users with AI interventions.
Looking ahead, DuckDuckGo plans to further integrate web search within its AI chatbot, Duck.ai, enhancing its ability to respond to user inquiries. Additional features in development include voice interaction capabilities for both iPhone and Android platforms, as well as the ability to upload images and receive AI-generated insights.
