FTTH Council to host 6th annual conference

Fibre to the Home (FTTH) Council Mena, has announced the launch of its sixth annual conference in the UAE under the theme of ‘FTTH – The Rise of Smart Nation’.
According to a 2013 study conducted by the council, UAE has the highest penetration rate in the world of fibre to the home connectivity for the past two years. Additional findings from the study will be announced during the conference.

The FTTH Mena conference will be held under the patronage of the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) on November 24 and 25, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

According to a 2013 study conducted by FTTH Council Mena, it was found that the next biggest FTTH markets in the Mena region include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Jordan.

Majed Al Mesmar, deputy director general of TRA, said: “Consistent advancements in the UAE’s Information and communications technology (ICT) sector are a sure-fire indication that UAE, is without a doubt set to become the Middle East’s token smart nation. The nation’s leadership vision, combined with the advanced infrastructure, will enhance the productivity and environment of both businesses and consumers. The presence of well-developed infrastructure with modern technology will contribute to the creation of a digital society and knowledge-based economic capable of putting our young nation in the leading positions.”

Dr Suleiman Al-Hedaithy, chairman at FTTH Council Mena, said: “We are very excited this year to hold our annual 6th edition FTTH Council Mena conference in Dubai. We look forward to transform Mena region’s ICT sector with smart initiatives for infrastructure and e-services.
