Future Landscape & Public Realm event brings stakeholders together

Under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Municipality, Future Landscape & Public Realm Abu Dhabi conference was launched at Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi Yas Island. This conference brought together government authorities and urban planning officials, consultants, municipal officials, garden and landscape designers and technology providers to discuss the trends, key challenges, projects and opportunities in Abu Dhabi’s public realm and landscaping industry. This conference is organized by Advanced Conferences & Meetings (ACM).

The conference started with the opening remarks of the chairman Geoffrey Sanderson. Eng. Aysha Salem Albaloushi from Abu Dhabi Municipality delivered the welcome address followed by a presentation by Benjamin heydon detailing ADM Project Initiatives and Processes. Maarten Venter shared a presentation on Building Inspiring Spaces. Whilst Dr. Ahmed Bashir elaborated on the use of native plants in landscaping. Angus Robertson shared a presentation on Future Landscapes: science fiction or fact? Followed by a joint presentation by Paolo Testolini and Abeer Manneh on the challenge of placemaking. Another interesting presentation by Jason Turner discussing Our Part in Nature – The Emergence of a New Environment was delivered. And finally Chris Smeaton shared a presentation on planning to landscape.

The first day of Future Landscape & Public Realm Abu Dhabi conference created the perfect platform for the attendees to build relations, exchange ideas and seize business opportunities throughout the ACMi+ interface that allowed for many networking breaks which created a dynamic, efficient and relevant learning environment.

Day two (February 9) of the conference will feature a presentation on the future of public realm lighting standards within Abu Dhabi, a joint presentation on Creating Masdar City, a session on true metropolitan architecture of the public, another session on feeding our cities: edible and sustainable landscapes and two presentations on environmental synergies- biological and infrastructural roles of our landscape and a look at SPLACES and the Reinvention of the Post-industrial City
