Global talents leave numerous opportunities in Europe and the US and look, instead, to the UAE – with its attractive work environment and secure lifestyle – to achieve their dreams.

Dubai, May 4, 2017

Popular Science
magazine, one of the world’s oldest science and technology journals, published an article in its May-June 2017 issue highlighting the UAE’s thriving future industry – particularly in Dubai.

Underlining Dubai’s pioneering role in developing sustainable energy sources and tapping into other vital resources, the article lauds the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that materialised in the creation of the Government of the Future, which, unlike other governments, includes ministries dedicated to the pressing issues of the 21st century, such as the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment, the Minister of State for Tolerance, the Minister of State for Happiness, and the Minister of State for Youth Affairs (the world’s youngest minister).

Under this innovative vision, the bi-monthly publication stressed, the UAE is no longer a country that anticipates the future, but one where future is shaped through relentless efforts to adopt impending trends and technologies in government work. It also noted that the UAE is rapidly becoming an exporter of science, technology, expertise, and talent to the world.

The magazine dubbed Dubai “the City of the Future” and The UAE “the Country of the Future” and “a regional and global pioneer”, highlighting the vast pool of global talents that are leaving numerous opportunities in Europe and the US and looking, instead, to the UAE – with its attractive work environment and secure lifestyle – to achieve their dreams.

The article details the efforts of the UAE – and Dubai, in particular – to transform into an open laboratory for testing and implementing the technologies of the future, attracting the world’s top experts, scientists, inventors, and high-tech companies.

The magazine offered real-life examples of this transformation, citing DEWA’s experience, whereby the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority launched projects to harness solar power, and to continuously develop its methods for generating and storing renewable energy. Moreover, the article cited the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) efforts to advance the transit sector in Dubai, using drones and other smart transportation technologies.

Expo 2020 Dubai is a unique and unprecedented experience in the history of the event, the article states, as it focuses on a global audience and uses nothing but renewable, clean energy sources. Popular Science went on to laud the Hope spacecraft that the UAE launched to not only penetrate but also lead the international space industry, noting that the Hope team is made up of young scientists under 30 years of age – which is unheard of even in the most advanced countries.

The UAE was built on solid foundations and a forward-thinking vision, the article concludes, and has adopted a future-oriented approach that calls for optimally utilising all resources, all the while empowering and training talented young Emiratis.
