Saudi Hospitality Sector Prioritizes Safety for Upcoming Religious Seasons

The Saudi Ministry of Tourism has issued a directive to hospitality establishments in Makkah and Madinah, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety protocols set forth by the General Directorate of Civil Defense. This move prioritizes the well-being of visitors, Umrah performers, and pilgrims during the upcoming Ramadan and Hajj seasons.

The Ministry’s circular highlights the need for hotels, guesthouses, and other lodging facilities to strictly follow safety guidelines. These guidelines encompass fire safety measures, emergency evacuation procedures, and overall security protocols. The directive comes as the Kingdom prepares to welcome a surge in religious tourism during the holy month of Ramadan and the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Ministry has urged hospitality establishments to take proactive steps. This includes reviewing and activating their approved evacuation plans in case of emergencies. The Ministry also recommends conducting practice drills in coordination with the Civil Defense to ensure a smooth and coordinated response during any unforeseen circumstances.

This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Tourism’s broader commitment to providing exceptional services to visitors. It underscores their focus on ensuring that tourist accommodation meets all safety regulations. By prioritizing safety measures, the Ministry aims to create a secure and comfortable environment for all those visiting the holy cities during the upcoming religious seasons.

The directive has been met positively by industry representatives in Makkah and Madinah. Hospitality establishments have acknowledged the importance of prioritizing guest safety and expressed their commitment to complying with the Ministry’s guidelines. Many hotels have already begun reviewing their safety protocols and scheduling practice evacuation drills with the Civil Defense.

The focus on safety comes as the number of Umrah performers and Hajj pilgrims is expected to rise significantly in the coming months. Ramadan, which begins in April this year, is a time of increased religious devotion for Muslims worldwide. Many choose to perform Umrah, a pilgrimage to Makkah, during this holy month. Additionally, the Hajj pilgrimage, which takes place later in the year, is expected to draw millions of faithful from around the globe.

By ensuring that hospitality facilities adhere to stringent safety measures, the Saudi Ministry of Tourism aims to provide peace of mind to visitors and create a more secure environment for all those undertaking religious journeys in Makkah and Madinah.
