Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid meets with WEF founder

DUBAI // Preparing for a future when industries are altered by new technologies was the focus of a meeting on Sunday between Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and the founder of the World Economic Forum.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai met with Prof Klaus Schwab, who is also the co-chairman of the Global Future Councils, at Madinat Jumeirah hotel. They reviewed global developments, advances in technology and government efforts to keep pace with the ‘fourth industrial revolution’, reported the state news agency, Wam.

They discussed how these trends are redefining industries, with developments in artificial intelligence, driverless vehicles, 3-D printing and the “internet of things” – the concept of devices being connected through the internet.

Prof Schwab, who is in Dubai for the World Economic Forum Global Future Councils inaugural summit, said the UAE’s approach to development has earned it a notable global standing in building the future.

Also in attendance were Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group; Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation; Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed; Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future and Co-chairman of the Global Future Councils, and Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of Dubai’s Protocol Department.
