UAE reassures citizens travelling to US

The UAE’s embassy in the US has reassured Emiratis planning to travel to the US that the new executive order on immigration does not apply to them.

In a post on Instagram, Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the US, said he has been in contact with the relevant authorities in the US and receives assurances that UAE citizens should feel safe to continue with any planned trips.

“After consulting with senior US gov’t officials, I’ve been reassured the new executive order on immigration law does NOT affect UAE citizens,” said Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to USA.

“You should feel free to continue with any planned travel to the US as long as you have the necessary documents and approvals. Please contact the Embassy at +1 (202) 431-5530 if you require emergency assistance.”

Al Otaiba’s comments come after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday suspending the entry of people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, a move that has sparked legal challenges, protests at airports and sharp criticism from around the world.
