A Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story Announcement Was Cancelled "at the Last Minute" in 2015

Not only was the long-rumored Boba Fett Star Wars Anthology movie a going concern, but a teaser reel was prepped to be shown at Star Wars Celebration 2015 alongside an official announcement, before being axed “at the last minute” following a split between Disney and mooted director Josh Trank.

This comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly sources, who say that the project has now been backburnered. Trank seemingly left the project after the troubles he faced on the latest Fantastic Four film.

We had previously heard that Trank was attached to the Anthology film set to follow Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, presumably meaning Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s young Han Solo movie was moved up the schedule from 2020 to 2018.

It’s unclear when or if a Boba Fett film will now be made. “There are [possible movies] that we have been talking a lot about,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told EW. “But we are planning to sit down in January, since we will have had The Force Awakens released, now Rogue One, and we’ve finished shooting Episode VIII.

“We have enough information where we can step back a little bit and say, What are we doing? What do we feel is exciting? And what are some of the things we want to explore?”

In the meantime, Rogue One will be released in the US on December 16, the Rian Johnson-helmed Episode VIII is due on December 15, 2017, and the Han Solo film (featuring Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role, and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian) comes just a few months after that, on May 25, 2018.
