DUBAI // A group of men arrested for reckless driving in City Walk have been ordered by the Ruler of Dubai to clean the city’s streets for a month.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid ordered the young men to perform community service to make up for “the moral and physical damages they caused to motorists and to city property”.

They will have to clean streets for four hours a day for 30 days, Dubai Media Office said on Thursday.

“The stunt was made amid busy traffic in the presence of families and children, violating traffic laws and general road etiquette,” a statement said.

“This reckless behaviour has endangered the safety of people and property in the location.”

The driver and passengers had been arrested after being filmed stunt-driving last weekend.

A video showed the Emirati motorist driving in circles at a high speed, just metres away from pedestrians, after heavy rain on Saturday.

Dubai traffic police later said he had been arrested and his 4×4 confiscated. They had said he could expect to face charges and a Dh100,000 fee to recover the vehicle.
