Kuwait’s Fawaz Al Hasawi has failed to agree on terms for the partial sale of Nottingham Forest to a US investor.

Al Hasawi, who has been in control of the former double European champions since 2012, had been in negotiations to sell an 80 percent stake in the club to John Moores, the former San Diego Padres owner.

The deal was supposed to be completed in December and again in recent weeks, but it fell through after Al Hasawi, chairman and owner, issued a statement to that effect about the ownership of the club on the club’s website.

“It is with great regret and disappointment that the club announces today that, despite much speculation in the media, all negotiations in regard to a partial sale of the club to US owners have come to an end,” said Al Hasawi.

“We feel strongly that we have acted in good faith on behalf of the club and its fans and that such a deal as it stands is not in the interests of the long-term future of our club.”

Nottingham Forest have been struggling in the Championship (English second tier) this season, currently in 20th, three points above the relegation zone. The club sacked their Philippe Montanier after just seven months in charge. The Frenchman is the seventh permanent manager to leave Forest since the club was taken over Al Hasawi.
