A NEW LIFE comes from award-winning filmmaker Choice Skinner (Wingman Inc., Black Lightning Tobias’ Revenge) and follows Ronald Ferguson, a devoted father who reluctantly enters back into the dating scene with the help of his young daughter, Briana. It’s been six years since the untimely passing of his wife Stephanie, when a parent-teacher meeting at his daughter’s school introduces Ronald to Serena, an enchanting teacher who captivates him instantly. Despite their strong attraction towards each other, Ronald struggles with severe emotional barriers due to the loss of Stephanie, making it difficult for him to open himself up to Serena and new love.

The film stars Chris Rouse (The Wrong Valentine) as Ronald and Daffany McGaray Clark (John Henry, Fosters) as Stephanie, along with key roles from Kyndra Mack (A Rose In Concrete), Danny Joo (All American), Danny Royce (NCIS), Joan Moten (Maggie) and Kailah Ami, making her acting debut alongside NFL star Josh Butler.

Skinner wrote, directed, edited and produced the project under his Darkan Entertainment banner, which he formed in 2010, an independent film and media production company dedicated to creating high-quality film, television, and media content with a strong focus on redemptive and empowering themes, expressly related to the Black community.

A Brooklyn native, Skinner first gained attention as a filmmaker for his award-winning dramatic short Brotherly Love, followed by winning Octavia Spencer’s Facebook Short Film Competition with his short A Second Thought. He went on to direct his first full length feature film, Wingman, Inc., teaming with writer-producer Tony Germinario.

Skinner began his entertainment career as an actor and has amassed numerous credits including the TV shows All American, The District, How I Met Your Mother, The Shield, and Lost, as well as the films Killjoy 2 Delierance From Evil, Black Magic, Cryptz, Transylmania, and Free Samples starring Jessie Eisenberg and Jason Ritter. Search begins today for nation’s top linebacker; celebration event planned for January 2024

The 39th annual Butkus Award^® selection process for the top linebackers in the country got underway today with the release of the collegiate preseason watch list.

The number of linebackers on the watch list, 51, is a nod to the storied “51” pro jersey worn by the award’s namesake, Dick Butkus, who was named by NFL Films as the greatest defensive player in football history. The Butkus Award recognizes the best linebackers in football.

Candidates for the college Butkus Award are on the watch list from 44 schools, including a previous finalist: Jamon Dumas-Johnson of Georgia and the two recurring semifinalists: Ohio State’s Tommy Eichenberg and UConn’s Jackson Mitchell. The Big Ten leads all conferences with 12 representatives, followed by the SEC with 11. Teammates from seven schools – Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State – have been named to the list and all 10 Division I FBS conferences are represented. The list also features one FCS player.

The award semifinalists are expected to be named Oct. 30 with finalists to follow Nov. 20. The winner will be named on or before Dec. 6. Appearing on the watch list is not a requirement to win the award.

“I am always excited about seeing our great watch list players on the field,” said Butkus, the College and Pro Football Hall of Famer. “When an outstanding player receives the Butkus Award he will know two things: First, he is recognized as the best of the best linebackers in America; Second, and in the long run most important, he will understand this recognition brings a responsibility of giving back.”

Founded in 1985, the Butkus Award honors linebackers at three levels while supporting causes important to the Butkus family. Causes include the Butkus Takes Heart™ initiative encouraging early cardiovascular screening among adults, and the I Play Clean^® initiative encouraging athletes to train naturally without performance-enhancing drugs.

A 51-member expert panel of coaches, scouts, and journalists guides the selection process. Past winners of the collegiate award include such greats as Patrick Willis, Von Miller, Luke Kuechly, Devin White, Roquan Smith and many more. The Butkus Award is increasingly focused on recognizing linebackers who consistently play off the ball on their feet in a two-point stance in traditional form.

The Butkus Awards will be unveiling a new trophy design for this year’s recipients. Designed by renowned sculptor George Lundeen, whose works include the Red Grange and Dick Butkus statues outside Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois.

Jack Campbell of Iowa was the 2022 recipient. The 18th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions was also the recipient of the National Football Foundation’s prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy, annually awarded to college football’s top scholar-athlete.

Guests who book the Brooke Smith Special Weekend tour at Buffalo Bill’s House will be delighted by the interactive well set, located in the basement of the house. The well is a replica of the infamous well in the movie, and is uncannily realistic. Constructed of real granite with all the gruesome markings from the movie, the well includes details such as the bloody fingernail scratches along the wall. Guests who purchase a ‘VIP Experience with Brooke Smith’ in the well will actually be able to physically enter the four feet deep well for a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity with Brooke, who will be dressed in a “hostage” costume, similar to what she wore as the famous movie hostage, Catherine Martin, in the iconic film.

To set the mood for the well photo opportunity, guests will be greeted upon entry by sounds of dripping water along with sound clips from the film of the victim Catherine screaming for her life. Additional props include a stuffed animal “Precious,” the little white bichon frise dog owned by the killer, a bucket, complete with lotion, which can be raised and lowered, as well knob & tube lighting to add to the eerie effect. To complete the chilling scene, there is also a hose for guests who want to channel Buffalo Bill’s character. All props can be used by guests to make their photo with Brooke Smith truly memorable.

‘Buffalo Bill’s Workshop of Horrors,’ also located in the basement of the house, is a re-creation of the famous Buffalo Bill’s dance set from the film complete with vintage Singer sewing machine, disco ball, four female mannequins dressed to resemble the ones in the movie, as well as a full length mirror and Buffalo Bill style kimono for guests’ use.

In the attic, guests will find ‘Buffalo Bill’s Playhouse,’ a retro-inspired game room that features a large screen TV complete with a 600+ library of select 70’s, 80’s and 90’s films on DVD and VHS. The Playhouse is tricked out with a host of full-sized classic arcade video games.
