AL AIN // Two Emirati men have been arrested for stealing a vehicle and recklessly driving it on an Al Ain roundabout.

The stunt had been filmed and police had received complaints after the videos spread on social media.

Al Ain Public Prosecution said on Sunday that the men stole the vehicle and removed its licence plates, then had a sound amplifier installed and the petrol tank filled, fleeing without paying for the services.

The pair then went to a green area in the roundabout at Al Ain Airport and drove recklessly, endangering others’ lives and damaging public property, the prosecution said.

Two hundred square metres of grass and 100 water sprinklers worth Dh11,000 were damaged. The men then abandoned the vehicle after it got stuck in sand.

The prosecution warned young people against reckless behaviour and said such acts are punishable with up to three years in prison and payment for all material damages.
