RLJP leader and Vaishali MP Veena Devi was being noticed standing with ChiragPaswan on the dais at the party’s foundation day function in Patna on 28 November. Sharing her allegiance to Chirag Paswan, Veena Devi said “I am with Chirag Paswan. How can I forget Ram Vilas Paswanji, who gave me the ticket and brought me to this position? We are with his son.”. Much talks have been making round in the corridor of power in Delhi that Union Minister and president of Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) Pashupati Kumar Paras will be merging his party with his estranged nephew Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) before the general election in 2024. The RLJP has five members in the Lok Sabha from Bihar. The erstwhile LJP had won six seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha election in Bihar. But after a split in the LJP, five MPs went with Paras-led RLJP, whereas Ram Vilas Paswan’s only son Chirag Paswan remained the lone MP of the LJP (Ram Vilas).
KARNATAKA BJP DISCUSSES SEAT SHARING FOR 2024 POLLS WITH STATE JD(S)
Newly appointed Karnataka state BJP president BY Vijayendra interacted with the state JDS president and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy at the latter’s Bidadi farmhouse and there they discussed electoral strategy to be adopted by the alliance to face the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to preliminary discussions, the JD(S) will not be given more than four seats, which signifies that it will be a minor partner in the alliance. However, if the NDA returns to power at the Centre in 2024, the JD(S) will continue to remain relevant in Karnataka. The JD(S) was battered in the assembly election, where it lost seats and vote share. It won just 19 seats, with a vote share of 13.3 per cent, compared with 37 seats and 18.36 per cent in 2018.polls Now JD(S) is fighting for mere survival, and its alliance with the BJP is taken up as against that background.
INDIA BLOC FAVOURS KHARGE TO TAKE CAMPAIGN LEAD AGAINST BJP
The day of the release of a book to commemorate the political journey of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge turned into an occasion where Opposition leaders shared that the Congress president should lead all opposition parties together so that they can win the 2024 elections. The event was the launch of a felicitation volume in honour of Kharge on his completing 50 years in electoral politics in New Delhi. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi released the book ‘Mallikarjun Kharge – Political Engagement with Compassion, Justice and Inclusive Development’. Not just Kharge’s party colleagues, but his compatriots in the INDIA alliance such as CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, DMK’s T.R. Baalu and RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalan, TMC’s Dola Sen and Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi were also present on the occasion. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi said Mallikarjun Kharge is “best suited” to lead the Congress party in the “historic battle for India’s soul”, while leaders of some INDIA bloc parties urged him to bring strength to the opposition. The book unveils Mr Kharge’s identity as a social activist deeply committed to the welfare of labour and marginalized , an institution builder in the field of education and a person profoundly driven by a vision to transform and reconstruct the caste-ridden inequities in society. The book, a collection of write-ups by leaders cutting across party lines, has been edited by Sukhadeo Thorat and Chetan Shinde.
CONGRESS ABSENT AT M K STALIN’S PRORAMME TO UNVEIL STATUE OF V P SINGH
Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin inaugurated a life-size statue of former PM VP Singh at the Chennai Presidency College campus. Besides Stalin, the late ex-prime minister’s wife Sita Kumari, son Ajeya Singh and his family, and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav also marked their presence but leaders of DMK ally Congress were absent. Stalin reiterated his call for a nationwide caste census to systematically implement proportionate reservation. He had put forth a proposal for the formation of a monitoring body comprising MPs from all parties to ensure proper execution of caste-based quota. He also emphasized the need for proper implementation of reservations for backward classes, SCs, STs, and minorities nationwide. (IPA Service)
