Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed receives humanitarian award

Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed has been awarded the Humanitarian Work Award of the Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States.

Sheikh Nahyan, chairman of the board of trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, received the award in recognition of his local, regional and international humanitarian work, reported state news agency Wam.

The award was received on his behalf by Abdul Redha Abdullah Mahmoud Khouri, ambassador to Bahrain, during a ceremony last Wednesday.

The event – its fourth edition – was held in Bahrain under the patronage of Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Bahrain.

Professor Yousef Abdul Ghafar Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Network for Social Responsibility, said the board honoured the winners for their outstanding humanitarian roles.

Along with Sheikh Nahyan, the award was also given to Sheikh Abdul Al Aziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Ajman government’s advisor for environmental affairs and secretary-general of the Al Ihsan Charity Society.

He dedicated the award to Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid, supreme council member and ruler of Ajman, in appreciation of his humanitarian work in the emirate, reported wam.

Other winners of the Humanitarian Work Award include Sheikh Khalid Al Faisal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, governor of Makkah and director-general of Saudi Arabia’s King Faisal International Foundation, Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Bahraini minister of justice, islamic affairs and Awqaf, Abdullah Al Matouq, humanitarian affairs advisor to the Emir of Kuwait, Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Qatar foreign minister and Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, the grand mufti of Oman.
