Smart services usage to hit 80 per cent in three years, report says

ABU DHABI // The transition towards smart services within federal agencies and departments is on course to hit 80 per cent usage rates by 2018, according to a new report.

A review by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority found the UAE Insurance Authority, Securities and Commodities Authority, the General Civil Aviation Authority and Ministry of the Economy had already achieved a 100 per cent shift towards electronic services.

Sultan Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, said: “We are very pleased with the results because they validate the significant developments we are currently witnessing in the UAE.

“These departments have proven that they possess the capabilities and competencies required to live up to the aspirations of our leaders and elevate the level of services.”

The minister also stressed that achieving a 100 percent shift to eServices across 62 priority government services is a “phenomenal achievement” and endorses the UAE’s leading status as a role model for development and progress on a global platform.

The Smart Government initiative launched in May 2013 with a plan to give people access to government services through a single ID.

More than 2,000 government services set to be available through mobile and electronic mediums, many of which are already available.
