ABU DHABI // The UAE Cabinet has paid tribute to the country’s Armed Forces during the ongoing Operation Decisive Storm military intervention in Yemen.
The Cabinet also praised the leading role taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the action to restore safety and stability to Yemen, and stressed support for the international effort, reports Wam, the state news agency.
“The UAE, and its brothers in the Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab Region, does not tolerate any form of danger that jeopardises the region and people’s achievements,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, during Sunday’s meeting at the Presidential Palace.
“We have hope that Yemen and its people reach a solution to end this crisis, and all parties work together to achieve development and stability.”
The Cabinet reviewed a report submitted by the UAE’s Armed Forces on the progress of the military campaign.
The meeting was told that it was imperative that Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy and institutions were maintained and protected.
The operation was important in boosting the collective security of the GCC, reported Wam.
The role of King Salman, the King of Saudi Arabia and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and his determination in building an international coalition in support of Yemen was also praised.
The coalition forces were left with no option but to take action after the Houthi militia and their allies forcibly tried to overturn Yemen.
The UAE Cabinet has full confidence that the operation will achieve its goals.
During the meeting, the Cabinet also approved a national campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking.
The initiative will involve a number of federal and local governments, including the Ministries of Interior, Health, Education and Environment, and the National Media Council.
A proposal to prioritise the purchase of GCC-manufactured products to promote national enterprises and competitiveness was also endorsed, reported Wam.
Also approved was a decree to host the office of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Abu Dhabi, and a federal law regulating Quran memorisation centres.
The restructuring of a number of government bodies was approved, including the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA), to be headed by the Minister of Environment and Water.
It will be represented by the Ministries of Interior, Economy and Energy, the Federal Customs Authority, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, the Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones, Dubai Municipality, and Sharjah Economic Development Department.
The Cabinet also approved the restructuring of the Arabic Language Advisory Council, to be headed by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, and which includes members, writers and media representatives.
On the international level, the Cabinet endorsed the opening of a UAE Embassy in Nepal.
The UAE Cabinet was attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior .
