UK Secures £150 Billion from US Corporates in Landmark State Visit Deals

The UK government announced a record-breaking inward investment package of £150 billion from U. S. companies during President Donald Trump’s state visit, with commitments aimed at clean energy, AI infrastructure, life sciences and advanced manufacturing. The deals are expected to create around 7,600 high-quality jobs across the country.

Blackstone pledged the largest share of the investment with £100 billion over the next decade. Prologis committed £3.9 billion to projects at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and expansion at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal. Other notable deals include Palantir investing £1.5 billion into defence innovation, and Boeing converting two aircraft in Birmingham, creating about 150 skilled jobs.

Technology giants deepened their footprint under the announced “Tech Prosperity Deal”, a separate pact worth around £31 billion focused on artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and civil nuclear energy. Microsoft alone is investing £22 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure, including a major AI supercomputer, while Nvidia, Google and other firms are committing to expanding data centres and research capabilities.

Despite the economic boost, not all industries benefited equally. The steel sector remains sidelined as U. S. tariffs on UK steel and aluminium—set at 25 per cent—were not lifted. The UK government paused efforts to reduce them to zero, sparking criticism from industry leaders who had hoped for relief under the deal.

Several observers, including former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, have questioned whether the partnership favours U. S. firms disproportionately and risks reinforcing UK dependence on foreign technology investment rather than strengthening indigenous innovation.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer framed the investment as a win for growth and jobs, particularly outside London, spotlighting roles in clean energy and biotechnology. Regions such as Belfast, Glasgow, the Midlands and the North-East are set to see significant benefits.
