British Telecom (BT) has appointed a new general director for its operations in Brazil.

Alex Inglês joined the company eight years ago and spent his four initial years working at the company’s London offices before returning to São Paulo.

Prior to becoming the company’s main executive in Brazil, Inglês served as wholesale director for Latin America, leading BT’s business with telecommunications operators throughout the region.

In London, Inglês held a number of roles within BT including positions directly related to the preparation of the telecommunications infrastructure supporting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following the London Games, the executive moved to Sao Paulo to take up the post of chief operating officer for Latin America and later became director of business development and sales operations for the region. Prior to joining BT, Inglês worked as a consultant at Accenture.

Inglês replaces previous Brazil general director Jorge Najera. Najera also served as vice president for Southern Latin America and will retain that role.

Last month, BT announced the launch of a facility in São Paulo for the development of complex IT and network solutions to client requirements in Latin America as part of its ongoing investment plan for the region.
