Dubai Palm Jumeirah fire said to have started from 'faulty' coffee machine

Dubai Oceana Fire blaze

Residents of the
fire-hit Adriatic building at the
Oceana complex on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah have been granted
access to their apartments to collect their belongings, the building’s property manager Asteco said in a statement sent to Arabian
Business.

However, it added
tjhat Dubai authorities have yet to give the clearance required to allow residents to move back
in.

The statement from Asteco said the cause of the fire is still under
investigation, although The National claimed that the blaze had started due to an
electric fault in a coffee machine in the penthouse apartment of a British
expat.

“I spoke to him when everyone was evacuated and he could barely get his words out. He said there was a fault with the electrics and the fire started from his coffee machine,” the newspaper quoted an anonymous resident as saying.

Though the blaze was first understood to have been brought under control, it later reignited and spread across the building due to a series of explosions.

Residents of the building have been offered a two-night stay in the Fairmont hotel on the Palm pending further announcements on when they can return to their homes.
