In February, Google confirmed that would makes its Assistant available to non-Pixel smartphones, which left many Android users wondering when they would benefit from the virtual assistant.

Close on the heels of the announcement, the OnePlus 3 reportedly received the Google Assistant as an over-the-air (OTA) update. However, only a handful of OnePlus 3 users reported the arrival of the update in early March.

Now, OnePlus is poised to push out the Google Assistant to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. This news comes straight from the horse’s mouth.

Google Assistant Coming To OnePlus 3 And OnePlus 3T

On March 23, OnePlus confirmed through its Twitter handle that both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were receiving the Google Assistant voice assistant.

For the unfamiliar, users can instruct the Google Assistant to carry out specific tasks on their smartphone.

Some OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users have already received the update, but most are waiting for its arrival. Usually, updates such as this one are pushed out in phases by the company and, therefore, take a while to hit a device.

Google has confirmed that the Assistant will be making its way to all smartphones powered by Android Nougat and Marshmallow, instead of being restricted to the company’s Pixel devices.

“The Google Assistant is coming soon to Android Marshmallow and Nougat phones. Instantly find your Google Photos, access your music playlists, pull up your flight itinerary and more. To get started, touch and hold the Home button,” shared the company.

The company also confirmed that the Google Assistant would not be pushed out immediately for compatible tablets.

Google Assistant: What Can It Do?

The functions of the Google Assistant are varied, but the most important is its ability to be contextual. This means that a user can ask the Assistant a question, and it will search the Internet to present the user with the best answers to those questions.

Other features include the ability to translate, remind the user about important activities, and translate texts. It can also provide weather reports and users may use the Google Assistant to operate all home-based smart appliances.

The Google Assistant is capable of recognizing the user’s voice and can be operated only by the user, which maintains the security and privacy of the smartphone itself.

“If you ever ask your Assistant for help from other services, you stay in control of the information you share. Easily manage or delete your past conversations with your Assistant at any time,” asserts the company.
